Annapolis-based jeweler Zachary’s Jewelers will be opening its annual Mother’s Day Jewelry Design Contest on March 1, which will remain open until the end of the month. Fifth grade students from Anne Arundel County are invited to submit designs for jewelry inspired by their mother or caregiver, and the winning designs will be made into real, one-of-a-kind pieces.

Zachary’s Jewelers has been running this contest for the past 15 years, and it has been steadily growing. 2025’s contest saw entries from nearly 300 students at 39 elementary schools.

In addition to their jewelry designs, entrants are required to write a short, handwritten story explaining the meaning behind their submission.

Along with bringing their jewelry designs to life, Zachary’s Jewelers will also donate $500 to the art program at the winners’ schools. 2025’s winners were students at Benfield Elementary School in Severna Park, Windsor Farm Elementary School in Annapolis and The Key School in Annapolis, who designed two pendants and a ring, respectively.
